If you can push your brake pedal all the way to the ground, it likely needs to be repaired. In many cases, this is a sign of a broken booster or master cylinder that is failing to engage in a timely manner. Although brake boosters and master cylinders have limited useful lives, they tend to wear out faster if you consistently slam on the brakes.
A brake pedal that reaches the floor might also be a sign of a fluid leak or air in the brake line. Often, the line will need to be bled or replaced entirely before you can drive again.
If the pedal looks or feels like it’s shaking, it could be a sign of thin or damaged brake pads. However, it could also be a sign that something has come loose or has broken off of it.
