High heat and extreme cold can do a lot of damage to your car battery. Extremely hot temperatures can cause the fluid inside of your battery to evaporate. This will damage the inside of the battery. Excess heat can also cause the battery to overcharge. If your battery overcharges, then it will start to die. Corrosion is another side effect of extreme heat.
Cold weather makes the engine oil thicker. The engine will have a much harder time turning over as a result. Your battery will also be forced to work harder. It is also important to note that your battery has to work harder during the winter. The windshield wipers, seat heaters, defrosters all force your battery to use more energy. This can cause it to die much quicker. Additionally, cold weather reduces the battery's capacity.
