Though it's not something we worry much about in our day-to-day here in Vermont, around the world, there is an increasing scarcity of clean drinking water. As climate change continues to take its toll and human population continues to soar upward, the UN estimates 47 percent of people will live in water-stressed areas by 2030.

Cars, you would think, are part of the problem, not the solution.

This year, the CDP asked 1,073 of the largest public companies in the world to disclose what they are doing about water scarcity. These companies spanned different industry sectors, and focused on those with high potential impact on water.

Only 405 of these companies sent responses, and of those 405, only 8 were deemed worthy of an A rating.

Two of those were motor companies-- Ford and Toyota.
